Of Prices and Products
I don't like to publish any price for a specific service, because I end up doing a lot of speciality work, but I don't mind providing an overall range or prices (though they are subject to change). Please bear in mind that these prices are no promise about what any specific job will cost, but more of a rough estimate, and do not include hosting fees.
- Playing it Safe is a fairly basic site design, with no tricky scripts, no databases and nothing I haven't done before. Don't get me wrong: your site will be original and it will be of high quality, but it won't do anything fancy, will include no multimedia, no pop-up windows, etc. This site (julieswebservices.com) is a good example of a site that fits into that category.
Price: $500
- Pushing the Envelope a Little is a fairly basic site design as well, but with a few neat bells and whistles, and possibly a script that does something I haven't done before. It might include an interactive image gallery, streaming video or some other neat little tricks. My music site is a good example of that.
Price: $600
- Over the Edge is a much more complicated site design, involving multiple levels of menus, fancy scripting and possibly several custom ideas designed just for your site. A good example of that would be my photography site.
Price: $1000
- Drupal Set-Up and Installation I can set up a Drupal site for you which allows you to manage all your own content. This price is for a basic, no frills, drupal set up. The Celebrate Brattleboro site is not a basic, no frills site: it includes some fairly specialized scripts for image handling. It is otherwise fairly straightforward. From there, you can either manage your own content or have me handle it for you.
Price: $400
- Mobile Device Optimization (designing versions of sites to automatically load on an iPod, blackberry or other device) can be an extremely simple job or a very complicated one, depending on the nature of the existing coding. If it's for a site I've already built for you, it is probably extremely easy for me to adapt. Otherwise, I'll have to see the original code and make a conditional assessment. It is, however, much easier for me to design a site with this optimization in mind from the beginning, in which case it will most likely just be an extra $150 above the base price.

Note: the above is for the basic set-up process which involves me communicating with you about what you're looking for, building something, and then spending a bit of time tweaking it. Once we're all happy with the site (which can take days or weeks) and view it as "complete," additional work down the line is done generally at the rate of $35/hour, but I'm willing to negotiate on that as part of an ongoing contract.
Please note: these are labor costs. Hosting fees are separate and can be as little as a few dollars a month, depending on your bandwidth and space needs.
Additionally, I will take on small jobs, such as tweaking style sheets, fixing problems in currently existing sites designed by others, etc., at that same $35/hour rate, but I charge a $100 minimum for any job along those lines.
